Jewel - "Christmas Medley"
This little Holiday Melange made me smile the other day. We all know the inner “sensitive” 16 year old in me will never let me stop loving Jewel. Hers was one of the first voices to help me see the beauty in different types of singing and storytelling. She was the first in a long line of ladies that helped me through some emotional years and for that, I will never leave her.
So when this song came on I smiled, not because the songs are thoroughly enjoyable, which they are, or because there’s something cheeky in her covering Bette Middler’s holiday version of “From a Distance”, or even because the first song in the medley is one I grew up singing, but because it brought be back to a memory of myself I hadn’t looked at in a while; and what are the holidays if not a time for taking out old memories and holding them up to the light of nostalgia.
So today, with humor and humility, I choose Jewel’s "Christmas Medley" as my, with each warm memory, with grace and effort, without care, caution, or condescension, song for a, seek joy, find love, look for happiness in every little action Tuesday.
