Mickki Brown - "Get Here" & "My Romance"
Mickki was one of the last jazz Greats, and I was so lucky to have had the chance to perform with her. Here, covering the Oleta Adams classic, she truly shines.
Her voice was smooth and mellow, never reaching or straining, there was an effortless quality that made it imminently listenable. When she turned on the juice, however, she could really set the room on fire, as witnessed by her rousing performance as the voice of the Muse in Disney’s Hercules, and she was thrice nominated for BMA’s Top Female Jazz Artist. Ms. Brown has performed with such legendary greats such as Patti Austin, Chaka Khan, Phil Collins, Dennis Edwards (former lead singer of “the Temptations”) and Harry Manx just to name a few. Some of her accomplishments include touring with “Mr. Las Vegas” Wayne Newton as a featured soloist nightly.
So, today, with love to lift you up, I choose Ms. Mickki Brown’s versions of “Get Here” & “My Romance” as my, let your voice lift your soul to heaven, find the light in every dark day, remember what truth you’ve learned in the moments that shock you into reality, song for a, with a wave and a smile, how can I help you to say goodbye, you will continue to be loved Thursday.
The video for “My Romance” is titled “Smile” but listen anyhow.
