Kina Grannis - "Stressed Out"
So I wrote about Kina back in July. About how I first heard her beautiful cover of Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” in Crazy Rich Asians, and had been hooked ever since.
Her delicate cover of the GooGoo Dolls’ megahit from the Movie “City Of Angels” was both angelic and heratbreaking. She found a way to bring something authentic and new to a song that we’ve all heard so many times we stopped listening to it. Now, it’s fresh again and tugging on your heartstrings.
Now, lately, this song has (accurately) been revolving around my life. It’s been a tumultuous time in my life, and this tender rendition of what was a rather jarring song is my new attitude on how to manage stress. Break it down, chord by chord, and turn it into something beautiful.
So today, with stress breaking down all around me, I choose Kina Grannis’ cover of “Stressed Out” as my, blurry faces, happy hearts, sugar tummies, song for a, I care what you think, determine what it’s worth to you, make the choice to be happy, Friday.
I know she probably does more than covers, but honestly, if this is all she did, it would be enough. She is a masterful interpreter of song.
